Times: 4 hours behind the U.K. in the winter and 5 in the summer. (GMT-4)
Voltage is 110. They drive on the left.
  • Climate: Overall the country is hot and rainy, especially between May and August.
  • Be prepared: take light clothing but bear in mind waterproofs and protection against mosquitos.
    Language: English is the official language. Creole, Indian and Amerindian dialects are also spoken.
    Money: Guyanese Dollar (100 cents). The exchange rate my vary daily. It is advisable to take U.S. Dollars, sterling or traveller's cheques. There are few opportunities to use credit cards.

A flight from France to Georgetown costs 686/990 €.
Airport : Cheddi Jagan International-Timehri is 25 miles from the centre of Georgetown. There are no direct flights but flights can be found via the U.S., Curaçao, Trinidad or Barbados. The best solution is often via Cayenne (another 308€ return to Georgetown).
Tourism in Guyana is mostly for those interested in natural history or adventure holidays. There are also some beautiful old colonial houses in Georgetown which are worth a visit. As for the forest; don't forget your hammock and mosquito net!
