Palm hearts:  man only intervenes at the moment of harvest.  

Agriculture occupies 36% of the working population. Although only 2% of the country is farmed, there is still a marketable surplus.
Sugar cane is grown on large properties whilst rice is cultivated in small areas of polder, principally by indians. Production of beef is concentrated in the savannah regions to the south west of the country.

  The sugar cane is grown by State run enterprises.

A tropical palm
  In fact, palm hearts are a native plant found in Guyana. It's not actually cultivated taken from the wild. Man only intervenes at harvest time.

As an asset, it is the most important non-traditional product of the forest. Some medicinal plants and creepers complete this type of economy.
